US: Smoke and Chaos as American Airlines Plane Catches Fire at Denver Airport
Denver, United States - March 13, 2025 Thick smoke poured from an American Airlines plane at Denver International Airport, sparking panic as passengers were rushed off the aircraft. The drama unfolded Thursday evening when a fire broke out under the Boeing 737-800 at gate C38. Dan Shows, a passenger on a nearby plane, captured the shocking moment on video, saying: “Happened to catch the fire as my plane was taxing to the runway.” The airport confirmed the blaze produced “visible smoke,” forcing crews to evacuate all 172 passengers and six crew members. “Passengers were evacuated and the slides were deployed,” DIA said. Firefighters extinguished the flames, and while no injuries were reported by 6:15 p.m., the situation worsened later. By 9:40 p.m., 12 people were whisked to local hospitals with minor injuries. American Airlines Flight 1006 had taken off from Colorado Springs Airport, bound for Dallas Fort Worth, when disaster struck. After landing safely at DIA, the plane faced an “engine-related issue,” the airline told FOX31. “We thank our crew members, DEN team and first responders for their quick and decisive action with the safety of everyone on board and on the ground as the priority,” American Airlines added. Air traffic control recordings revealed the pilot’s alarm. Sensing “high engine vibrations,” he warned they were cruising “slower than normal.” The NTSB has launched a probe, sending two experts to investigate the commercial jet’s powerplants. A preliminary report is expected within 30 days.
