30 couples participated in the annual UK Wife Carrying Race on Sunday (March 16).

The participants ran a 380-metre obstacle course that includes jumping over hay bales and being splashed with water by spectators.

The 'wife' does not have to be the carrier's actual wife, but they must be 'alive, human and at least 18 years old' and 'weigh at least 50kg'. Although, one person was seen dressed in a wedding gown carrying his dog.

The event, which takes place in Dorking, Surrey, has run since 2008. The entrance fee is £49 per couple with profits going to Mid Surrey Community Fridges.

This year's winners were Stuart Johnson and Hattie Cronin, who also won the race in 2024. They won a barrel of local ale worth £150, and £250 towards their expenses in representing Britain in the World Wife Carrying Championships, which is being held in Finland in July.
