This is the dramatic moment a stray dog trapped at the bottom of a well was rescued by locals in India.

The pooch had fallen into a pit near the village of Pipariya Ram Mandir in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh.

Residents reported that the helpless canine had been stuck there for four days and they could not reach it due to the depth of the well.

Locals eventually contacted the non-governmental organisation Atal Kamdhenu Gau Seva Sansthan for assistance.

Dramatic footage shows the emergency responder lowering a rope, before the dog was safely pulled out on March 15.

The rescued four-legged creature was then seen running away as the video clip ended.
