Malaysia Airlines flight makes emergency landing in the Philippines
A Malaysia Airlines flight suffered an engine fire from a bird strike and made an emergency landing in the Philippines.
Flight MH705 from Manila to Kuala Lumpur was forced to return to Ninoy Aquino International Airport due to the suspected engine fire shortly after take-off on March 15.
Footage shows the Boeing 737 safely touching down on the runway before four firetrucks followed behind.
There was also an ambulance that responded although all crew and passengers from the flight were safe.
Plane-spotting enthusiast Edgylen Dan Calvo, who witnessed the moment flight MH705 landed safely, said: 'Malaysia Airlines Flight MH705 diverted after declaring an emergency. We were relieved everyone was safe.'
The flight had taken off at 9:37 pm from Manila when the flight crew decided to return and landed at 10:13 pm.
Passenger Dasun Hegoda, who was seated by the window, reported seeing flames appear near the aircraft's wings.
He said: 'I was on Malaysia Airlines flight MH705 when the engine failed and caught fire after takeoff from Manila.
'Huge thanks to the pilots and cabin crew for keeping us safe.'
The Malaysian flag carrier is yet to issue an official statement, but the 12-year-old Boeing has been grounded for inspection.
Malaysia Airlines has experienced technical issues in recent months. In June last year, flight MH199, carrying hundreds of passengers, was forced to make an emergency landing at Hyderabad Airport after experiencing engine trouble shortly after takeoff.
