This is the spectacular moment a whale leaps from the water in front of a patrol ship in Japan.
Dramatic footage shows the large marine mammal seemingly enjoying its playful behaviour off the coast of Uwajima, Ehime Prefecture on March 13. The creature suddenly soared out of the water before diving back into the calm sea.
The Japan Coast Guard said: 'The whale seemed to have gotten used to the patrol boat, and it repeatedly breached in front of us.'
Captains are urged to stay vigilant at all times and refrain from getting too close to other vessels for the safety of both the ship and the wildlife.
