Bungling engineers built a motorway flyover on top of a footbridge - leaving a tiny gap for commuters to squeeze through.

The busy walkway was once an essential route to work until the construction of the elevated expressway on Rama 2 Road began in Samut Sakhon, Thailand.

The finished structure now 'decapitates' the headspace on the bride below, forcing pedestrians and cyclists to duck when they want to reach the other side.

The structure currently has a clearance of just one metre, forcing pedestrians to stoop uncomfortably while crossing in front of Talay Thai Market in the Tha Chin district.

The road construction has enraged locals, who criticised the project, calling it Samut Sakhon's newest 'landmark.'

Some even dubbed it a new amusement park attraction, while others likened the act of ducking under the bridge to a ritual for warding off bad luck.

Resident Nisarn Kitwijarn, 60, said he has had to endure this inconvenience for about a month.

He added: 'Young people and children may not mind, but for the elderly, having to bend down like this repeatedly is quite a struggle. After just two crossings, my back starts aching.'

Somkid, a Burmese worker from Yangon, Myanmar, said that an alternative route exists - a makeshift scaffold running alongside the bridge - but it feels unstable and shaky, so most people avoid using it.

The Mahachai Highway Department said the pedestrian overpass is only a temporary solution.

'Once the elevated expressway components are fully installed, a new steel bridge will replace it, allowing pedestrians to cross without needing to duck,' they added.

Despite Thailand's rapid economic growth, infrastructure planning issues continue to pose challenges for pedestrians and commuters. Poorly designed road projects and underinvestment in public walkways often lead to hazardous conditions.
