Crazed Iranian tourist tasered after 'syringe attack on hotel staff' in Thailand
This is the dramatic moment a crazed Iranian tourist was tasered during a hotel rampage in Thailand.
Reza Farshi, 44, sparked alarm when he allegedly stabbed a hotel housekeeper with a syringe while she was cleaning his room on tourist island Phuket, on March 11.
The terrified worker fled and called police for help as the out-of-control guest then started screaming on the balcony.
Police arrived at the scene carrying batons and riot shields. They reportedly tried to negotiate with the holidaymaker, but he threatened to attack them with the syringe.
Footage shows the frenzied Iranian squaring off against the cops while waving around the plastic medical tool. He began roaring furiously as the officers carefully inched in formation across the room and cornered him.
When Reza was within range, they electrocuted him with a stun gun, and he collapsed convulsing on the floor.
Police Captain ML Sanya Suksawat of the Karon Police Station said: 'Police spent an hour trying to talk to him, but were eventually forced to subdue him with a taser gun.
'Later, officers from the Karon Municipality Rescue Center were called to provide first aid before taking him to calm down at Karon Police Station.
'We will look into the cause of his rampage, whether he was under the influence of narcotics or not, and contact the Iranian Embassy for further action.'
The once-pristine island of Phuket has been marred by over-tourism as the Thai government implements a visa-free scheme to boost revenue following the barren pandemic years.
The island saw 800,000 foreign visitors last year alone.
However, angry locals claim the push for tourist dollars has attracted crowds of 'low-quality' visitors from Russia, India and Australia. There are also fears that the island has become an enclave of criminal activity, with police unable to control street fights and more organised ruffians setting up rackets among local businesses.
Phuket officials said they are implementing tighter immigration controls and screening processes amid a wave of drug-related crimes and illegal activities on the island.
