This is the amusing moment a wild elephant appears to throw a tantrum while violently tossing a vine in Thailand.

While following his mum and younger sibling at Khao Yai National Park, Prachinburi, on March 9, the jumbo named Plai Phupha seemed irritated and restless.

Footage shows the creature wandering off the road into the nearby forest, grabbing a vine and dramatically flinging it around.

Plai Phupha could be heard making grumbling noises as if he were complaining. He continued pacing back and forth between the roadside and the forest, clearly caught up in his frustration.

Shortly after, his mother called out, signalling it was time to continue their journey.

Like a playful youngster, Plai Phupha swiftly dropped his 'toy' and trotted back to join his family.

Thailand has up to 3,500 elephants in the wild. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in the country at the beginning of the 20th century.

The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
