Madrid, Spain - March 17, 2025 Police officers from Madrid’s Municipal force swooped in to save a greyhound left in shocking neglect just days ago. The poor pooch was discovered in a dark, dingy storeroom in a residential block in the Usera district, according to a spokesperson from the Local Corps who spoke to Europa Press. The grim find came after a neighbour raised the alarm around 1pm, horrified to see the animal languishing in a squalid space with no light, surrounded by piles of excrement and urine. Cops tracked down the dog’s owner via its microchip, only to find it hadn’t had a single vaccine. The Municipal Veterinary Emergency Service (SEVEMUR) rushed the greyhound to Madrid City Council’s Animal Protection Centre for urgent care and assessment. Depending on the vet’s report, the owner could face animal cruelty charges. For now, he’s been hit with an administrative fine and stripped of the dog.
