Brave Villagers Save Two from Under the Glacier After They Were Buried in Avalanche
Although the weather in Himachal Pradesh has cleared, the threat of avalanches continues in the higher regions. In the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti, within Spiti Valley, a glacier fell from a mountain, trapping two villagers in its path. Thankfully, locals who were present at the scene quickly sprang into action, digging through the snow and rescuing both individuals, averting a major disaster.
According to reports, Mud village had been facing a water shortage for the past week due to damaged drinking water pipelines caused by heavy snowfall. On Tuesday, a group of villagers reached the mountain to repair the water source. While they were installing the pipes, a massive avalanche suddenly struck, burying two villagers under the snow.
Upon seeing the two trapped under the snow, other villagers rushed to the scene and immediately began digging. Luckily, they managed to rescue both villagers just in time.
Chewang, the head of Mud village, stated, "People were troubled by the water shortage. On Tuesday, they went to connect the pipes at the water source, and that’s when this major disaster was avoided. The villagers worked together to fix the water pipes, and now water is being brought to the village so people no longer face drinking water issues. The recent snowfall had disrupted daily life here, damaging the water pipelines and causing significant hardship."
The quick response and bravery of the villagers prevented a potentially fatal incident and provided much-needed relief to the community that had been grappling with a water crisis.
