Gazans return to roads in displacement amid renewed Israeli bombardments
Storyline: The Israeli army issued evacuation an order on Tuesday amid the ongoing heavy airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, forcing numerous local residents back on roads in displacement just weeks after a brief ceasefire allowed some to return to their homes. This order told the local residents to leave what the Israeli army calls "the combat areas" including Beit Hanoun, Khirbet Khuza'a, Abasan al-Kabira and al-Jadidah, and to seek refuge in the western Gaza Strip or Khan Younis in the south, according to Israeli military's Arabic-language spokesperson, Avichay Adraee on social media platform X. On the roads leading to Khan Younis, groups of people were seen carrying the simplest of luggage. Many, including children, the elderly, and the sick, were struggling walking on foot. The order has shattered the hope of a return to normalcy, leaving residents fearful about their future. The strikes, which ended nearly two months of ceasefire, occurred amid ongoing indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas aimed at securing a new truce that could include both the release of hostages and an end to hostilities. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced early Tuesday he had ordered the military to "act forcefully against Hamas in the Gaza Strip," launching a wave of airstrikes across the Palestinian enclave. Over 400 Palestinians have been killed and 562 others injured since the new airstrikes took place, according to Gaza-based health authorities. Shotlist: Gaza Strip - March 18, 2025: 1. Some people were killed, and some ran away. We had no idea where to go. We just ran with no clues. At least 10 people were killed in our neighbor's house, and there was smoke and shrapnel everywhere. We just kept running. After daybreak we were told to evacuate and leave where we were. We did as told, but we didn't know where to go, and now we are standing here. We have no idea where we should go." 3. Various of children among displaced people walking; 4. The Israeli army issued an evacuation order, requiring residents of Khuza'a and other areas to leave, so we had to evacuate on foot. We could only take light items with us, like medicine and some small necessities. As for other belongings, we couldn't carry them, and there was no way to take them. We don't know where to go. We simply don't have a place to settle down." 5. Various of displaced people, donkey carts on roads; 6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ahmed Abu Daqqa, displaced Gazan (ending with shot 7): "We were bombed heavily, seven people from my neighbor's house were killed, including a mother and her children. I am an ordinary person. I just want to live a normal life like everyone else. We don't expect for more, not even bread, food or water. All we want is to live in peace." 7.
