A wild monkey snatched a resident's pet kitten and carried it across rooftops in Malaysia.

The primate invaded a home to steal fruit, where it saw the newborn feline in Selangor on March 13.

Footage shows the macaque clutching the moggy while crossing an electrical cable across the street.

The monkey tried hiding in a tree, but the neighbour Firdaus followed, so it kept moving along.

Firdaus said: 'I tried to offer it some food, but it would not return the kitten. It just ran along the cable.'

The monkey climbed down another home's roof but did not return the moggy.

Firdaus added they are still looking for the kitten around the neighbourhood.

He said: 'They monkey is always hanging around the roof of that house. We might be able to find the kitten there.'

Monkeys in Malaysia, particularly long-tailed macaques, frequently invade homes, raid refrigerators, and steal food from kitchens and dining areas.

They also rummage through garbage, scattering trash and creating a mess in public spaces. In tourist hotspots, some monkeys snatch bags, sunglasses, or phones from unsuspecting pedestrians.
