Pedestrian dies following collision with police car in Acocks Green, Birmingham

West Midlands Police and the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigate a fatal collision between a police car and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a 40-year-old man, died at the scene on Yardley Road, Acocks Green, Birmingham 19th March 2025.

WEST MIDS POLICE STATEMENT: 'A man has sadly died after a collision involving a police car and a pedestrian in Birmingham tonight.

'It happened on Yardley Road, near the junction with Florence Road in Acocks Green, just before 7pm.

'The pedestrian, a man aged 40, was pronounced dead at the scene.

'The marked police vehicle was responding to a 999 call relating to a report of a man carrying knives on Warwick Road in Acocks Green at the time of the collision.

'The family of the man who died is being supported, and we are liaising with the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

'The two officers in the vehicle were not hurt.

'Anyone with information, including dashcam or other footage, has been asked to get in touch with us on 101 or Live Chat, quoting log 4726 of 19 March.

'Other officers attended the report of the man with the knives, but there was no sign of any disorder on arrival.'

An IOPC spokesperson said: ‘We can confirm that we have started an investigation into the circumstances of a road traffic incident where a West Midlands Police vehicle was involved in a collision with a pedestrian in Birmingham last night (19 March).'
