According to President Petro, the two reforms are essential to fight deep income inequality in Colombia and lower the country's poverty rates, with the healthcare reform plan aiming to strip power from insurance companies and expand citizens' access to healthcare and the labor reform intending to reduce working hours and boost overtime pay. On the day, people from all walks of life expressed support for the proposed reforms, emphasizing that more efforts are needed to push forward the reform process. An appointed official from Petro's government attended the rally and promised to include more Colombians in the democratic process. Despite the outpouring of support, the Congress of Colombia at the end of the day rejected Petro's package of labor reforms for a second time since he took office in 2022.
