A bride and groom left their guests in shock by revealing they were already married – during the ceremony.

Zahné Zabierek, 25, and her husband Arek Zabierek, 27, made the surprising announcement during their wedding in Mexico on February 23, 2025.

The couple had eloped and gotten married in Las Vegas exactly one year earlier, without telling anyone.

Their friend and officiant Nicky Boggio, 26, delivered the news to the guests in the middle of the ceremony, revealing that the couple had already been married for a full year.

A funny video captured the guests' shocked reactions, with many gasping in disbelief.

Zahné, a content creator from Coquitlam, Canada, said: "I feel like I blacked out waiting for everyone's reactions. "

"Most people loved it! Everyone was so surprised."

"My best friend and bridesmaid Taylor had the best reaction."

"She looked completely shocked."

Zahné and Arek met though a mutual friend.

After following each other for years, Arek eventually slid into Zahné's DMs in 2018 and their relationship took off quickly.

Zahné said: "We were one of those couples that just knew."

"If he had asked me to marry him on our first date, I would have said yes!"

"He came on my family camping trip a month after we met, joined us in South Africa after six months and we moved in together at eight months."

"We're truly each other's best friends."

The couple's intimate Vegas ceremony was planned in just eight weeks and kept mostly secret with only Zahné's brother and his wife knowing.

Zahné said: "I had always dreamed of a Vegas wedding but I also wanted the big celebration. "

"We had to legally get married in either Canada or the US before our Mexico wedding, so we thought 'Why not make it fun?'"

"Keeping it a secret wasn't hard at all. "

"My brother came with us to be our witness and photograph the day so him and his wife knew. "

"Our wedding planner and our vendors for our Mexico wedding knew as well as my nail and wax girls. "

"I needed someone to chat with about it!"

The couple always intended to have a bigger wedding later, saying they didn't want to miss out on celebrating with family and friends.

Zahné said: "The wedding was actually quite intimate with just 50 guests but it was perfect."

"Doing it this way made the planning process so much less stressful. "

"We weren't nervous about actually getting married because we already were!"

Zahné came up with the idea to reveal the secret at their wedding after seeing another couple do something similar online.

She said: "I'm a big dates person and it felt weird to not celebrate both milestones so we planned it exactly one year apart."

"It felt so special to have something just for us. "

"Weddings come with so much outside input, and this gave us control over how we wanted it to play out."

"It was exactly what you'd imagine a Vegas wedding to be - quick, fun, and ending with dinner at our favourite restaurant Catch."
