Salta, Argentina - March 19, 2025 The flooding of the Pilcomayo River has left thousands of people homeless in northern Salta, with mass evacuations and entire communities underwater. In the midst of the emergency, an image went viral on social media: a young man wading through neck-deep water, singing "Río hermano" by Jorge Rojas, a song of hope in a critical situation. In the image, other citizens around him, equally affected by the phenomenon, are following him in the same struggle against the current. Martín Herrera, the young man from Salta who created the video, is originally from Santa Victoria and has been updating the status of the Pilcomayo River's flooding through his social media channels. This Monday, Martín said he walked 10 kilometers round trip to get from his town to Monte Carmelo and thus deliver food and water to the affected residents.
