It was set up under a resolution passed by the United Nations General Assembly on 28 November 2012. The purpose of this day is to highlight the importance of forests and trees and promote their protection for the present and future generations. Various countries organize plantation campaigns, awareness programs and other activities on this day. The day encourages governments, organizations and citizens to make efforts towards conservation and sustainable management of forests. In view of the importance of the forests, it was decided to celebrate March 21 as 'World Forestry Day' at the 16th Conference of Food and Agriculture Organization in 1971. Subsequently, in 2011, it was declared as 'International Forest Year'. In 2012, in 2012, the United Nations General Assembly made an official announcement to celebrate 21 March as 'International One Day'.
Speaking to the media, Forest Divisional Officer of Kaithal Forest Department, Pushkar Kumar IFS said that International One Day reminds us that our life is incomplete without forests. It is important that we take concrete steps to save forests and work for their protection at all levels.Speaking to the media on the occasion of International Forest Day, the citizens said that tree plants have special significance in our lives, so it is the ultimate duty of all of us that we should come forward to plant trees in the courtyard, street, locality, parks and public places of our houses.
Citizens said that to plant more and more trees, we should also protect our birthdays, children's birthday and tree saplings in memory of the elderly so that it can become a big tree of ardent and make the environment pure. He said that in today's modern era, the environment is being contaminated due to the large number of vehicles running roads, continuous increase in industries, which is a threat to humans. Therefore, all of us should take a pledge to plant more and more trees on this day and protect them.
