Thousands celebrated the Hindu Holi festival in Kathmandu on Thursday, dancing to festive music, drumming and smearing each other with red, green, blue and pink powder.

Hindus across India and other South Asian countries, dressed mostly in white, smeared or sprayed friends and relatives with brightly coloured powder Friday as millions celebrated the return of spring during Holi, the festival of colours.

Holi has its origins in Hindu mythology and lore and celebrates the divine love between the Hindu god Krishna and his consort Radha, and signifies a time of rebirth and rejuvenation.
