The moment a hungry otter ransacked a family's kitchen has been captured on camera.

Donna Mouat, 36, had just got home from doing the food shop on February 21, 2025.

She was starting to prepare dinner for her husband, Ryan, 42, and children Geordie, four, and Vaila, six, when one of her children said they spotted a hedgehog outside so Donna went to take a look.

She realised that it was an otter coming for scraps of fish, that her fisherman husband left outside.

When the family went to check it out, one of her children left the door open. The otter took its chance and ran into the house.

The otter ran straight into the kitchen, where Donna was preparing monkfish for the family.

Brave Ryan, ran inside to get the otter out, and 10 minutes later, the otter was finally out of the house.

Donna, a hypnobirthing teacher, from Shetland, Scotland, said: "We all went outside to take a look, that is when one of the children as usual left the door open."

"The otter took the opportunity and ran into the house."

"My husband was much calmer than I was, me and the children stayed outside and he went inside to get it."

"He closed all the internal doors to stop it from going all around the house."

"The otter ran straight into the kitchen, ran out and then ran back through his legs again to get into the kitchen."

"It was very happy where it was."
