Protestors have targeted a Tesla dealership with anti-Elon Musk posters amid growing backlash for the tech giant and his support for Donald Trump.

A group calling itself Overthrow Musk shared a video of members taping the posters to the outside of Tesla Centre St Albans, in Herts.

In the social media clip, a group of protesters can be seen walking up to the showroom and attaching an image of Elon Musk's straight-arm salute from President Donald Trump's inauguration.

Another poster read "your local swasticar showroom" showing the same image reversed on the other side of the door during the incident on March 14."

A woman who appears to be a member of staff is then shown – with her face blurred - walking up to the store and taking a photo of the posters before text saying "bring down musk" is displayed."

Another video showing the building with the posters attached was captioned "Overthrow Musk just paid Tesla St Albans a visit"."

Other protests have been seen in the UK and America with organisers encouraging Tesla owners to sell their cars.

The electric car giant has already seen shares plunge since the start of the year as the firm comes under pressure from Chinese rivals.

There are calls for a boycott over Musk's close ties with US President Donald Trump and far-right causes.

Responding to claims the gesture was a Nazi salute, Mr Musk posted on the platform he owns, X – formerly Twitter, this week: "Frankly, they need better dirty tricks."

"The ‘everyone is Hitler' attack is sooo tired."
