UK: London's Heathrow Airport closed due to power outage caused by nearby fire
Heathrow Airport in London was shut down on Friday due to a significant power outage caused by a fire at a nearby electricity substation. The local fire department said that the fire is now under control. More than 1,300 flights, including 120 already airborne, have been affected, according to British media outlet Sky News. Passengers are advised not to travel to the airport until further notice. The airport spokesperson said it is not yet clear when power will be restored. The fire, which broke out about 2.4 kilometers from the airport in Hayes, has also left around 16,000 nearby homes without power. The cause of the fire remains unknown, but National Grid is working to restore electricity as quickly as possible. London Heathrow, located in West London, is one of the world's busiest airports, having handled 83.9 million passengers last year. Shotlist: London, UK - March 21, 2025: 1.
