Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki spews lava during latest eruption
Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki spewed lava during its latest eruption in Indonesia.
Dramatic footage shows the volcano ejecting bright orange molten rock in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on March 20.
The mountain erupted violently on Thursday around 10:56 pm local time and again on Friday at 12:10 am.
The volcano's status was raised from Alert (Level III) to Warning (Level IV).
Authorities said it released volcanic ash as high as 8 kilometres on Thursday. The following morning, it emitted volcanic dust with a column height reaching 2.5 kilometres above the peak.
Hendrikus Saran Kwuta, 45, a resident of Nurabelen Village, Ilebura District, reportedly suffered burns from being struck by eruption debris.
Head of the East Flores Communication and Informatics Agency (Kominfo), Heronimus Lamawuran, said: 'It is possible that the victim was in the garden at the time and suffered burns from being hit by ash from the hot cloud. The victim is undergoing medical treatment at the Lewolaga Community Health Centre.'
Heronimus urged the community around the slopes to remain alert following the elevation of the mountain's status.
Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki is located on Flores Island, part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region known for its high seismic and volcanic activity due to the movement of tectonic plates.
