A driver narrowly escaped death after a massive chunk of ice flew off a lorry into his windscreen.

The motorist, 52, driving a dark grey Chevrolet Niva, was navigating the motorway when the ice block from the passing truck in an opposite lane smashed the front of his vehicle in Voronezh, Russia.

Dashcam footage shows the windshield shattered with glass shards scattering inside the SUV on February 16.

This prompted the shocked car owner to briefly stop the four-wheeler and manoeuver to the opposite lane to report the incident and repair the damaged vehicle.

The man was reportedly injured and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the incident.
