Dozens of tourists injured when bus overturns in Thailand
Dozens of tourists were injured when a bus overturned on a sharp bend in Thailand.
The coach was carrying holidaymakers as it lost control on a downhill curve in the Kamala district of Phuket on Saturday at around 5 pm.
Dashcam footage from an oncoming driver captured the moment the vehicle wobbled and then crashed into its side.
Frantic passengers smashed the windows and scrambled to safety amid fears the vehicle could catch fire.
Onlookers rushed to help and used ladders to help the tourists to safety. Officers also arrested the driver on suspicion of 'reckless driving causing injury to others'.
Police and paramedics arrived and treated 41 tourists for minor injuries. Officials said they were all from Russia.
The region's MP Chalermpong Saengdee said the injured tourists were taken in ambulances to the Patong Hospital.
He added: 'The bus's brakes are suspected to have failed while it was driving downhill. The driver said he could not control the vehicle on the sharp turn.
'Police will interview the driver again and check the bus. If there is any negligence those responsible will be prosecuted.'
Police said that the driver and a tour guide were also injured in the crash. They both received treatment for cuts and bruises.
Colonel Anurak Prinyasathirakul added: 'The driver said the brakes did not work as he was going round the corner.
'Based on the initial statements, he has been arrested for reckless driving. But he will be interviewed again to collect evidence before the prosecution continues.'
