Officers from the West Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) have evacuated a female Sumatran tiger from a trap cage in Agam Regency.

This rare and protected animal was captured after a prolonged conflict and predation on local livestock.

The 3-4 year old female tiger was taken to the Bukittinggi Zoo for treatment and observation.

Antonius Vevri, Head of Section I Conservation Area of West Sumatra BKSDA, said that the tiger, locally known as "Si Mauang," suffered a leg injury. "The tiger's left front leg is severed, likely due to a pig snare. This condition forced the tiger to hunt for prey around residential areas," Vevri explained.

Video footage taken in Matur District on March 14, 2025, shows officers tranquilizing the tiger inside the trap cage before transporting it to the Bukittinggi Zoo.
