A wildfire tore alongside the US Route 1 highway in Florida.

The blaze erupted along the 18-mile stretch of road on Tuesday, March 18, and intensified due to high winds and dry conditions, rapidly expanding to cover approximately 3,600 acres.

US Highway 1 and Card Sound Road, the primary routes connecting the Florida Keys to mainland Miami-Dade County, reopened after days of intermittent closures.

Dramatic footage recorded by Jim Robinson shows the massive inferno raging through the side road, with fire trucks and emergency vehicles parked near the scene, on March 20, around 8:15 pm.

Jim said: 'Very scary driving through US-1. Fire coming right up to the northbound side! Don't recommend trying to cross.'

Although no injuries were reported, authorities said the flames had damaged power lines and communication towers.

By Sunday, authorities noted that the blaze had burned nearly 27,000 acres. Crews said it is now 65 per cent contained.
