A snorkeller was terrified when dozens of hungry sharks surrounded her.

Sindy Claire Bondoc was exploring the crystal-clear ocean with her mask when the shiver of predators swam around her in the Maldives.

Footage shows Sindy Claire wearing a pink bikini getting startled as the curious sharks circled her.

The tourist tried to swim away before one of the marine animals glided upwards near her face on March 13.

The freediver said: 'The sharks were being fed by locals, so they were in a bit of a frenzy. They looked terrifying with sharp teeth but they actually ignored me.'

Sindy said the local guides gave her instructions so that swimming near the animals could be safe.

She added: 'Your hands should not be away from you. Just keep it to your chest or above water because the shark might think it is food.'

Nurse sharks are slow-moving, bottom-dwelling sharks commonly found in warm, shallow waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean.
