This is the terrifying moment a snake slithered past a resident while he was sleeping in his daughter's playpen.

CCTV footage shows Aksorn Mueangpoon, 35, lying on the floor as a keeled rat snake crept beside him in Trang, Thailand, on March 14.

Upon noticing the reptile, he immediately jumped up and ran outside while it continued to move around the room.

The residents reportedly called for help from an animal rescue team, which arrived to retrieve the snake and release it safely back into the wild, away from residential areas.

Aksorn said: 'I was just lying on my daughter's playpen. I heard a sound when it slithered underneath the baby crawling mat, but I didn't think it was a snake.'

The keeled rat snake is a non-venomous reptile. It can become defensive when approached too closely, handled, or restrained, but its bite is not dangerous to humans.
