Out-of-control pickup truck with drunk driver crashes into cars
This is the dramatic moment a pickup truck lost control and crashed into multiple vehicles in Thailand.
CCTV footage shows the out-of-control truck hurtling around a corner of a neighbourhood street in Nakhon Ratchasima province, in the early hours of March 21.
Shocking footage shows the red pickup clipping two parked trucks before smashing into two more cars in front of a home. Dust and debris were strewn across the road as the speeding vehicle spun to a stop, its front end completely mangled.
Authorities arrived at the scene after receiving a report from sleepy residents who were jolted awake by the crash.
Emergency crews found the injured male truck driver and his girlfriend in the wreckage. The road was later washed to clear away an oil leakage from the crumpled automobile.
Officers believe the man had been drink driving. A police spokesman said: 'We are waiting for the driver to recover from the injury before interrogating him thoroughly for legal action.'
Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
