A Mongolian tourist was arrested for allegedly using a modified suitcase to steal luxury goods from a mall in Thailand.

Byamba-Ochir Erdenebat, 52, reportedly swiped brand-name clothes and bags from a shop in Pattaya, on March 7.

He was said to have stuffed the shoplifted items into a hidden compartment in his trolley. However, eagle-eyed security guards pulled him aside after some of the items on display went missing despite him not buying anything.

They initially found nothing unusual until store clerks pointed out the large compartment on the top sealed with tape. Inside, they found 12 clothes and bags worth 26,000 Baht (600 GBP).

The suspect reportedly tried to flee but was immediately arrested.

Mall staff were said to have tried to settle the matter with him, but negotiations fell through.

He was handed over to the Pattaya City Police Station to face legal action.
