Storyline: Labubu art toys from China taking UK by storm [Voice_over] Meet Labubu...the little monster with a big heart. [Sound_bite] Shopper: "A lot of people think they're creepy, but I think they're very cute." Shopper: "But they're also a little bit evil." Shopper: "I'm obsessed. I love them. I want more." [Voice_over] Artist Kasing Lung is the man behind the monster. Lung was born in Hong Kong and raised in the Netherlands. He says he was inspired by the picture books he read while learning Dutch. [Sound_bite] Kasing Lung, Artist: "I kept thinking back to my youth - all the stories that I read and loved so much. I found myself going back to those fairy tales that I loved when I was little. And so I wanted to make something that had always been in my heart." [Voice_over] Chinese toymaker Pop Mart invited fans to meet Lung in London. They lined the streets outside Harrod's - one of the UK's top department stores. [Sound_bite] Shopper: "I feel like I'm meeting my hero. And I cannot wait to get my Labubu signed." [Voice_over] Almost all the people at this event were adults. They say toys aren't just for kids anymore. [Sound_bite] Shopper: "There's nothing wrong with being an adult and liking toys. I think it's fun. Why not?" Shopper: "I think that's important - to stay youthful, and just have fun. Don't take yourself so seriously." [Voice_over] Lung never dreamt that Labubu would become this popular. But he thinks people love the character because it shows that it's OK to be different. [Sound_bite] Kasing Lung, Artist: "My designs are not supposed to be perfect. They are actually just like a real person in the real world. I am not perfect. But people who are not perfect can still do things perfectly. They can achieve perfection. And that's the message I want to send." [Voice_over] Somehow, Labubu connects with people. It may be a monster...but it's a monster full of meaning. [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
