A bomb squad successfully removed explosives in southern France.

The American Air Force bomb was discovered at the site of a former refinery in Frontignan in early February.

Authorities conducted the demining operation at the Exxon Mobil site, where the fuse of the explosive load was safely cut and neutralised. Once disarmed, the bomb was transported to the Lafarge quarry for destruction on Sunday morning, March 23.

Dramatic footage shows officers preparing for the controlled explosion.

Herault Prefecture officials acknowledged the efforts, saying: 'I renew my thanks to all the law enforcement, emergency services, and agents involved in this operation.'

The bomb disposal operation was completed successfully, mitigating any risk to the public. Authorities have since lifted the security measures.
