Meteor streaks across sky above south of France
This is the spectacular moment a meteor streaks across the blue sky above the south of France.
Breathtaking footage shows the brilliant fireball whizzing over La Calanque de Samena, between Marseille and Cassis, in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, on March 24, around 5:53 am.
The natural phenomenon displayed a stunning spectacle as the bolide disintegrated during its descent.
Meteors, sometimes called shooting stars or falling stars, are created when meteoroids enter Earth's atmosphere at high speeds, causing friction that heats the meteoroid and the surrounding air. This process causes the meteoroid to melt and vaporize, creating a bright trail of light.
