Two people were injured when a train slammed into a lorry that was recklessly crossing the tracks.

The truck, loaded with rice, crossed the railway, causing the passing locomotive to crash into the vehicle in Santa Catarina, Brazil, on March 21.

CCTV footage shows the train hitting the rear end of the cargo vehicle, sending railway workers flying from their open-air seats.

The injured employees were immediately taken to Nossa Senhora da Conceicao Hospital for treatment by emergency responders.

One of the victims reportedly suffered pain in the hip and spine, while the other sustained a chest injury. Both were discharged later the same day.

Tereza Cristina Railway (FTC) said in a statement: 'The lorry driver failed to notice the approaching train, despite it being a level crossing that was properly signposted in accordance with legislation and with good visibility.'
