Mother and son narrowly avoid pickup truck hurtling into shop
This is the heart-stopping moment a mother and her son narrowly avoided being hit by a pick-up truck that crashed through a glass shopfront.
Employee Prae was cleaning with her son Posh when a car ploughed into the Bakerlicious bakery in Samut Prakan province on the outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand, on March 24.
Dramatic CCTV footage shows Posh walking near the glass entrance before the vehicle came hurtling into the store. The loud crash jolted him, and he ran out of the way with seconds to spare.
The shocked mother scooped the terrified boy up in her arms and burst into tears after the near-miss accident.
The bungling driver said he had been parked in front of the store, and mistakenly put the car into drive instead of reverse.
He said: 'I panicked and hit the accelerator instead of the brakes. I was also startled because I heard a child screaming.'
Prae said no one was injured, but the bakery had to be closed for several days for repairs. She added she received 15,000 Baht (around 330 GBP) in compensation.
The shop owner said negotiations regarding damage to the bakery were still ongoing.
Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.
Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
