An escaped ostrich was spotted running along a busy highway in South Korea.

The flightless bird was seen sprinting through traffic in Gwarim-dong, Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do, on March 22 afternoon.

Footage shows the feathered creature weaving between lanes, forcing vehicles to slow down as it frantically attempted to navigate the road.

Police received reports of the runaway bird and rushed to intercept it along a curved motorway.

Despite their efforts, the ostrich skillfully dodged officers and continued its escape, reaching speeds of up to 70 mph (113 km/h)—making it one of the fastest land birds.

It eventually left the road and fled toward a nearby river, where it was later discovered. A rescue team was dispatched, and authorities successfully tranquilized the ostrich near Anyeong Junction before transporting it to a local farm.

Police investigations revealed that two ostriches had escaped from a local farm in Siheung.

A 119 report received on March 23 confirmed that one of the ostriches had been captured the previous day, while the second remained on the loose, with wildlife officers actively tracking it.

Tragically, authorities later reported that the captured ostrich succumbed to its injuries.
