China: Strong winds hit Xinjiang, police rescues trapped truck drivers
Strong winds reaching nearly 30 meters per second struck an expressway section in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, overturning a truck and trapped the drivers. Highway patrol police found the truck at 11:00. Two officers immediately smashed the windows and rescued the two trapped drivers, and the two drivers were not seriously injured in the accident. The expressway section connecting the regional capital Urumqi and the city of Turpan saw severe windy weather on Tuesday, hurling debris and reducing visibility to under 10 meters in some areas, according to the traffic police of Turpan. In the region's Jimunai County, Xinjiang, heavy snow also appeared with strong winds. To ensure road traffic safety, local traffic police immediately implemented temporary traffic control on affected road sections of the expressway. On Tuesday morning, seven weather stations in Jimunai recorded level 11 westerly gales, and 13 stations had level 10 westerly winds, and the lowest temperature reached minus 11 degrees Celsius.
