Los Angeles, United States - March 26, 2025 03/26/2025 09:30 pm (GMT-0700) VERMONT-SLAUSON, LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Los Angeles Police Department's 77th Division officers responded to a report of a man with a rifle pointing a firearm at passerbys in the 6400 block of Figeuroa Street around 8:45 p.m., according to authorities. When officers arrived, the suspect barricaded himself in a second-floor apartment after refusing to comply with the officers' commands. Police established a perimeter around the residence and began evacuating nearby occupants. Several individuals exited the residence and were detained for questioning. The suspect was described as a Black male, shirtless and wearing black and gray pants. Authorities believe he was armed and possibly lying down at the rear of the house. In response to the situation, officers requested reinforcements, including units equipped with rifles, K-9 teams, and SWAT personnel. K-9 officers formulated a plan to encourage the suspect to surrender and attempted to communicate with him using a public address system, though their efforts were unsuccessful. SWAT officers ultimately requested the suspect to exit the apartment. At that time, according to the LAPD, the suspect was seen with a firearm in the second-story window, and an officer-involved shooting occurred. According to the LAPD, the suspect was struck by gunfire and taken into custody thereafter. He was transported to a local hospital and treated for gunshot wounds. The suspect's condition is stable. No officers or other community members were injured during this incident. An officer-involved shooting investigation was underway at the scene in the area of 64th Street and Figueroa, with surrounding roads closed for several hours. The investigation is ongoing until all the evidence has been examined.
