Kilauea, one of the world's most active volcanoes, began erupting again on March 27, 2025, on Hawaii's Big Island. Footage captured by John W. Ratcliff shows massive lava fountains and thin strands of volcanic glass known as Pele's hair being thrown into the air. Ratcliff, a former video game programmer, described the eruption as "simply massive" and noted rising smoke across the caldera — something he hadn't observed before. Crowds of onlookers, some with pets, gathered at a safe distance of over half a mile to witness the dramatic event.
