Terrified workers hid under desks as a powerful earthquake rattled Bangkok, Thailand.

Video shows the employees taking cover under their tables as the ceiling lights violently shook in the capital city at around 2:20 pm.

Officials said the quake was a shallow 10 kilometres, with an epicentre in neighbouring Myanmar, according to initial reports.

Many buildings were evacuated as they swayed in the rare quake. A building under construction in the Chatuchak district of Bangkok collapsed, leaving at least 67 missing.

The US Geological Survey said the tremor struck at a depth of 10 kilometres (six miles), and was centred in neighbouring Myanmar, around 50 kilometres (30 miles) east of Monywa City.
