A powerful storm left cars submerged in Alamo-Donna, Texas.

Authorities reported that the thunderstorm in the southern region began on Wednesday, followed by heavy downpours on Thursday afternoon and evening, continuing until Friday, March 28.

Dramatic footage shows partially submerged vehicles abandoned on the road.

The Texas Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert for Alamo-Donna, reporting that the eastbound I-2 frontage road between Tower Road and Val Verde is closed due to flooding. Officials advised drivers to avoid the area until the water levels recede.

Dozens of water rescues were also conducted due to the flash flooding.

At least three people have been confirmed dead following the freak weather. Officials said the deaths occurred in Hidalgo County.

The National Weather Service reported that the region received between 6 and 12 inches of rain, with some areas receiving more. McAllen recorded over 6 inches, while more than 14 inches were registered at the Valley International Airport in Harlingen.
