Helicopters battled the Table Rock Complex wildfires in South Carolina.

The inferno erupted on Friday, March 21, with the blaze believed to have been started by four teenagers.

Reports from the South Carolina Forestry Commission indicate that deputies initially discovered the fire while searching for a missing hiker. The search operation was called off after the wildfire ignited.

Dramatic footage shows firefighting helicopters engaged in the fire suppression mission on March 28.

U.S. Army Soldiers from the 1-111th General Support Aviation Battalion, 59th Aviation Troop Command, based at McEntire Joint National Guard Base, joined the operation. They utilized UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters to tackle wildfires on the north side of Table Rock Mountain on Friday.

Authorities said the blaze had burned 11,468 acres as of Sunday morning, affecting both South Carolina and North Carolina and charring more than 500 acres overnight.

Evacuation orders were issued for more than 1,400 homes and businesses on Thursday. Officials stated that the fire was 9 percent contained as of Saturday afternoon.

The Pickens County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with the South Carolina Forestry Commission, led the ongoing investigation.
