Police hunt 'armed carjacker' seen clinging to moving vehicle in Cambodia
Police are hunting an armed carjacker who was seen clinging to a moving vehicle in Cambodia.
The suspect and an alleged accomplice are said to have committed an armed robbery before fleeing on March 29.
One man was caught, but another is said to have climbed onto a car and smashed its window with a handgun.
Terrifying footage shows the robber hanging onto the car while forcing the family out of the vehicle at gunpoint.
Major General Chhoeun Sochit, the Police Commissioner in Kandal province on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, said the chase started when two armed individuals on a motorbike carried out a robbery on National Road 4.
He said: 'Police chased the two suspects and there was a gunfight. One of the suspects was detained and the other stole a family's car to getaway.
Police said the carjacker fled along the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway near Okrang Ambel, where he hijacked a moving SUV, forcing the occupants to exit.
The vehicle eventually stopped, and the suspect entered as the passengers disembarked. The driver was attacked and injured. They were left on the roadside as the stolen auto sped away.
Realising he was being pursued, the carjacker drove to Ang Snoul district, then ambushed the driver of another black Lexus, forcing them to flee.
The chase continued into Kambol district, where Phnom Penh police intercepted the vehicle and ended the pursuit. However, the suspect quickly exited the car and vanished, fleeing the scene.
Police said they are still searching for the suspect.
