Drone video shows buildings flattened by Myanmar earthquake
A drone video captured the devastation caused by the earthquake in Myanmar.
Footage shows the wreckage of apartment buildings as firefighters carried out rescue work in the Mandalay region near the quake epicentre on March 31.
In a statement, the Myanmar Fire Services Department said: 'Teams from the Myanmar Fire Services, China, Russia, and India jointly carried out search and rescue operations. On March 31, 2025, five women were rescued alive, and 16 men and 11 women were found dead.
'Since the beginning of the operation, a total of 403 people have been rescued alive in the Mandalay Region, and the bodies of 259 dead have been recovered.'
The US Geological Survey said the magnitude 7.7 tremor struck at a depth of 10 kilometres (six miles), and was centred in Myanmar, around 50 kilometres (30 miles) east of Monywa, along the Sagaing fault.
Residents ran from their homes when they felt the tremors shortly after 1:20 pm local time on March 28. More than 2,000 people in the country have been killed, with rescue efforts ongoing.
The quake destroyed buildings, bridges, and dams, leaving many areas in ruins. Communication remains difficult as mobile networks are down, and access to electricity and the internet is limited.
In neighbouring Thailand, high-rise buildings shook and an apartment block under construction collapsed in Bangkok. At least 20 people were killed.
