A man carrying a 'firearm' has been shot dead by armed police at a busy railway station.

Thames Valley Police confirmed they had been called to Milton Keynes railway station in Buckinghamshire, UK, at 12.55pm today (April 1).

A spokesperson said armed officers responded and challenged the man before shots were fired by police.

Life-saving actions were immediately taken at the scene, but the man was pronounced dead at 1.44pm.

The spokesperson added there is not believed to be any further risk to the public at this time.

A video taken outside shows multiple police response vehicles and people congregating outside the station.

One worker in a nearby office building said he and his colleagues were in a meeting when the incident happened.

He said: "When we came out, we saw the police had cordoned everything off. It looks like it's under control now."
