US: Kilauea Eruption Lights Up Halemaumau with Lava Glow
United States - April 01, 2025 Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii - Episode 16 of the ongoing Halemaumau eruption at Kilauea began at 10:57 p.m. HST on Monday, March 31. Lava started overflowing from the north vent, creating a brilliant glow. The eruption’s latest phase followed weak spattering in the north vent. It began at approximately 5:20 p.m. HST on March 31, 2025. By 6 p.m. HST, the spattering turned continuous and grew into low fountaining, reaching heights of 15-30 feet. The lava level gradually rose in the vent. It is now spilling out of the north vent cone onto the floor of Halemaumau. The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reported this in a status update. Each of the prior 15 episodes featured significant lava fountaining. Episode 15 saw fountains exceeding 1,000 feet (305 meters) in height. Experts predict high lava fountains will likely follow the current dome fountaining and lava flows within 24 hours or less.
