INTERVIEW WITH PALESTINIAN EMIN ABU AL-IYSHGAZA, PALESTINE - APRIL 1: Israel's closure of borders in the Gaza Strip, preventing the entry of humanitarian aid and fuel into the region, has forced some bakeries to halt production. The blockade imposed by Israel on the Gaza Strip have been causing many critical issues in the region, especially starvation and disease. Due to the blockade preventing the entry of fuel and basic foodstuffs, bakeries in the Gaza Strip have become non-operational. Production has stopped as gas cylinders used in the production process cannot be supplied. As a temporary solution to the problem, many Palestinian families have turned to baking their bread in traditional clay ovens. However, Palestinians emphasized that they cannot even find firewood, and that the situation in Gaza is getting worse everyday. Palestinians said in addition to Israel's brutal attacks, they have been struggling with hunger, epidemics and high cost of living. They warned that a widespread famine is inevitable, and that deaths from health problems would increase. Israel began a surprise aerial campaign on Gaza on March 18 and has since killed more than 1,000 victims and injured over 2,000, shattering a January ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas. More than 50,300 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza in Israel's military onslaught since October 2023, most of them women and children. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
