Electric air taxi flips over in botched take-off in China
This is the hilarious moment a Chinese electric air taxi flipped over in a botched take-off attempt.
Footage shows the pilot calmly seated inside the vehicle, preparing to depart as the propeller started to spin.
Suddenly, the aircraft tipped onto its side before it rolled over, sending debris onto the ground at Huahua World, a scenic spot in the city of Nanning in Guangxi, China.
Local media reported that the incident occurred during a test flight demonstration at the campsite on March 30.
Authorities said that the activity was carried out by professionals and was not a project initiated by the site.
A staff member said: 'The test flight was conducted by a certified professional tester, and the tester is in good health. He was not injured.'
Officials added that the onboard battery of the small aircraft had separated from the fuselage, and the propeller was also damaged. Authorities are investigating what caused the incident.
The 253lb (115kg) Chinese electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft can fly at a speed of 72 km/h (44 mph) and is designed for low-altitude tourism.
Recently, China's Civil Aviation Authority issued the world's first Air Operation Certificate for a remotely piloted aircraft system to two urban aerial mobility (UAM) companies operated by EHang.
This development, which took place on March 28, is said to mark a major step toward the commencement of the 'passenger era' in China's low-altitude airspace economy.
