PALESTINIANS CARRYING BODY ON THEIR SHOULDERS AND CHANTING SLOGANSJENIN, WEST BANK, PALESTINE - APR. 2: A Palestinian child was killed on Wednesday, April 2, after Israeli forces opened fire during a raid in the occupied West Bank. According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the Israeli military carried out an operation in the town of Silat al-Harithiya, west of Jenin, in the northern West Bank. Israeli troops entered the town from several directions and positioned themselves at the entrances and streets. Israeli soldiers opened fire, killing a 15-year-old child. Several others were injured, including an 18-year-old Palestinian who was wounded in the hand and a 17-year-old who was shot in the leg. The Palestinian Red Crescent confirmed the injuries and said another person with serious injuries was taken to hospital in a private vehicle. Tensions have soared across the West Bank since Israel’s offensive on Gaza began on Oct. 7, 2023. According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, more than 940 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 7,000 injured in attacks by Israeli forces and settlers since then. In a legal opinion issued last July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s decades-long occupation of the Palestinian territories illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
