This is the bizarre moment an elderly beggar tricked locals by dressing as a schoolgirl in China.

The begging scam was exposed when locals saw through the unusual disguise in Shilu Town, Changjiang Li Autonomous County, Hainan Island.

Dressed head-to-toe in baby pink leggings, a hoodie, a school backpack, and a heart-patterned umbrella, the pensioner conwoman completed the look with a brown wig in a trendy bob to hide her grey hair.

To finalise the disguise, she wore garish makeup and a surgical mask to conceal her wrinkles.

Footage shows a passerby confronting the pensioner as she tries to hide behind her umbrella on March 29.

In front of her, a cardboard sign reads: 'Parents Seriously Ill-School.'

As the pensioner is challenged, she becomes increasingly bad-tempered, answering back in an angry voice.

Her facade finally crumbled when, during one argument, her wig fell off, revealing her grey hair. She shouted: 'I want money for my old age. Why do you care?'
